New mothers feel let down, says NCT report
Based on an NCT survey of 1260 first time mothers, the report Postnatal care - a Cinderella story said that many mothers felt ‘helpless, isolated and abandoned’ by the care they received in hospitals and 42% of those surveyed thought there were only ‘sometimes’ or ‘never’ enough midwives to help them in hospital, as opposed to ‘always’ or ‘mostly’ enough. Over half, 57%, said they didn’t receive the emotional support they needed in hospital within the first 24 hours.
